J. Michael Lavin is a skilled attorney with experience in commercial litigation, business contract disputes, and real estate matters.
Formerly practicing with Ellison & Lazenby, PLLC, in St. Petersburg, Florida, Mr. Lavin developed a reputation for delivering successful outcomes in complex legal cases. While there, he defended and resolved a $1.1 million real estate transaction, obtained six summary judgment verdicts in favor of his clients in 2023, and represented financial institutions in foreclosure defense. His practice involved strategic legal counsel, court appearances, and analyzing intricate litigation and lease-related documents.

Before joining Ellison & Lazenby, Mr. Lavin served as an Assistant Public Defender with the Sixth Judicial Circuit of Florida. He managed over 200 misdemeanor cases in this role, led five trials, and achieved two not-guilty verdicts. Known for his exceptional legal drafting and research skills, he regularly navigated complex Florida Criminal Statutes and Rules of Procedure.

Mr. Lavin began his legal career as a paralegal, providing litigation support and assisting clients with license encumbrance issues. His journey reflects a strong foundation in environmental law, having earned an Honors Certificate in Environmental and Earth Law during his time at Barry University School of Law, where he also served as an Associate Editor for the Earth Jurisprudence & Environmental Justice Journal.
